Glazed function room and cafe, refurbished church garden vaults;

Proposals for the re-use of a neglected, listed colonnade around the gardens of the historic St Mary's Church in Hitchin, Hertfordhshire. The space can function as a cafe, information point and flexible events space for exhibitions. A delicate glazed structure is inserted within the existing brick vaulted structure overlooking the river, and the church gardens. The structure aims to service a civic function, welcoming visitors to the weekly market as they arrive via the town centre car park, and forming a point of interest along the riverside toward the busy cafes of Hermitage Road.
