This project involved the conversion of a historic fishing net loft in the Anstruther conservation area on the fife coast into a new photography studio and maker workshop. Brick is a relatively rare material in this context, historically used in the ballast when trading between the low countries and Scotland over the last two centuries; the project sought to carefully restore the brickwork and historic timbers within the building. Traditional materials and conservation techniques were mixed with sharp, contemporary detailing and a large glazed ‘aperture’ that looks toward the sea.
